Resolved Question: Treatment for heartworms?
I recently just rescued a dog from a backyard breeder, she tested positve for heartworms as she most likely spent her two years in a crate outside, I fully intend to get her treatment, but for now the vet said she was in early stages and heartgaurd would protect her from the worms advancing to adults. My question is if the worms don't advance to adults and the worms do not reproduce with heartgaurd how effective will adultricidal treatment be? Her x rays show no damage to the heart or lungs I go back in 3 months for more x rays to see if the disease progress more, but if the heartgaurd stops the growing would the treatment put my dog at a risk with a not so good chance to cure the disease? Ps I know how serious this is so you don't need to state that, and as stated I fully plan to treat her, I just need to know all the details. moreOpen Question: Will the worms in peaches grow in you?

Well, here's the story. I have a small Madagascan Hissing Cockroach colony, consisting of 64 adults. (All of them were birthed from a dominant female, since I started out with two females and one was impregnated, she had two broods since I got here, and I'm expecting more roaches in the near future, as oothecas (egg cases) started popping out of quite a few of my females' posteriors. Now the "Cockroach Conundrum" is about a third brood one of my larger females birthed. They all looked healthy and happy (35 of the little babies), crawling around the terrarium. I knew though that there may be a bit more problems since my roaches moved to a bigger terrarium after the second brood was near adulthood. Now since the holes in the cage top were bigger, when a new brood of babies came, they could squeeze out of them. So this third brood came and now I have a problem. After moving them to a smaller plastic container (it was one of the containers I saved from where I put my wax worms, as treats for my reptiles) with a whole lot of small air- holes, and all the sudden, over the passed two days, eight of my youngsters starting dying unexplained deaths. My two other broods were happy and healthy, and I only lost about 3 in total over their time in growing up, two of them being from having a deformed body after coming out the wrong way from the mother's anus. I saw this with one of them of the third brood and I thought: "Oh well, it's just one major deformity, nothing's going to go wrong." But then, after I moved my roaches to a plastic container, (no chemicals in it, since I first of all, washed it out with warm water, and second of all, was used to store wax worm treats for my reptiles) I started to see some crippling roaches. I gave them the same food the adults eat (collard greens, strawberries, and dog food) and they still had fatalities. I'm worried about this. Usually one death doesn't really give me the mind to worry about anything, but eight deaths in the passed two days? I haven't had that many fatalities with my first two broods combined. Is it something genetic? A parasite (I don't think it's really possible for it to be a parasite, since I have no fatality records of adult roach deaths)? My first two broods thrived. WTF is up with this one? I spray them daily as well. I'm not an idiot at this. I've had these guys for almsot a year. I don't know how this downfall came upon them. The other broods thrived so well. HELP ME OUT ENTOMOLOGISTS!!!! Well, it's kind of hopeless now, but people saying they're gorss have no idea what they're talking abotu, and how much more destruction humans brought on this planet. Whoever said "Ewwwwwwwww" or somethign liek that is gettign marked as spam. I'm sorry. Hissers make wodnerful pets, and aren't an invasive species. When I said it's kidn of hopeless now, I was refering to that the majority of this brood are dead. But, oh well, there's more upcoming ones. Porbabl ya genetic problem, as the adults have no signs of sickness. The males are still beign stuborn and aggressive, and the females are just being docile as ever. xaarg: I change their food and water EVERY day. Along with every single pet I own. If I see one spec of reptile poop, I'll go clean it right back up. I have OCD, and I will make the tanks and cages as clean and presentable as possible before a spawn of a new day. I have owned these guys for almost a year as I said before. Have you read my whole description? Two HEALTHY broods came out and this one suddenly has unexplaiend deaths. ALSO STATED was that none of the other colony members suffered fatalities, besides the youngsters. The daytime temperature is a natural 80- 85 degrees farenheit. And I have coconut fiber to mantain moisture content. I could go by your theory of inbreeding, but guppies can also inbreed for quite sometime before anything goes wrong, and roaches aren't as complex as a fish vertebrate. Although, they have a larger brain density than many mammals, and if they had a larger brain, in comparison to their body size, they could be failry intelligent. Imagine if their brain grew larger, and the roach itself, grew bigger as well. They could easily have intellect comparable to primates. They do have close to 1,000,000 neurons , so imagine how intelligent they would be if their brain was comparable to their body size as that of a human's. Insects do have more complex minds than meets the eye, their brains are just to small in comparison to their body to do logical thinking. All I know, is that this desease seems to be neurlogical and I don't think their's anyway of curing them. Sorry, I meant *there's*. moreOpen Question: Question about finding a stray dog....?
I found a stray dog almost 2 months ago. I went around the neighborhood asking people if it was theirs, or knew who it belonged to. I have a big dog and this stray was the size of a mini dog. later that evening i gave her to my mother to take in while we waited to see if anyone claimed her. I didn't want to let her just go without knowing who she went to as it was cold rainy and she was starving. After a month of not finding the owner, she grew on my mother as she is an elderly person who lives alone. We went and got her special things, dog license and stuff. She's been wormed, she get's vitimans and lots of tlc. My mom is worried that one day someone will come knocking on the door and say hey that's my dog.. Would after 2 months or more could she say it's her dog???? I don't know how long the dog was a stray but she was starving and thristy. When she went to the bathroom for the first time since she came to me it was like sticks and leaves and stuff. I felt so bad for her. I can understand my mom's concern because she is becoming so attached to her. I told her if she felt that the person was the rightfull owner i would ask before letting them take the dog for the money spent out. Would this be bad? I think if you wanted a dog you should have a licence, a collar and a name and address plate at least on your dog..This one had nothing. moreOpen Question: A Cockroach Conundrum? Her stomach is pretty swollen. When she stands up it really looks like she's pregnant. She lives with this similar-looking male, unfixed cat. They look like they're siblings or something so I wouldn't think that he could of mated with her. I don't know if it's worms or being pregnant. Her stomach has seemed to grow bigger ever since we first saw her at our back door. We tried to catch the male with a have-a-heart live trap but he kept escaping from it. Animal control will catch and kill him because he's not suitable for adoption. We do enjoy them here so we don't really want to give them away. The male is very friendly, yet the female is a lot smaller and kind of scared of us still. She's getting a lot better though with us. moreOpen Question: ***10 Points Best Answer!!!!!!!!!*** Lyrics Similar to "to his coy mistress"?
So I've been searching for a song that has lyrics which basically have the same idea as the poem "To His Coy Mistress" and i've had no luck. Maybe you know of a song. If you dont know what the poem is about it is basically a guy writing a poem to a girl trying to convince her to hurry up because they are both going to get old and they need to hurry up and get the loving going on before it's wasted. It's like "lets enjoy life now cause time is short". He's all like "I know you love me" etc Here is the poem Had we but world enough, and time, This coyness, lady, were no crime. We would sit down and think which way To walk, and pass our long love's day; Thou by the Indian Ganges' side Shouldst rubies find; I by the tide Of Humber would complain. I would Love you ten years before the Flood; And you should, if you please, refuse Till the conversion of the Jews. My vegetable love should grow Vaster than empires, and more slow. An hundred years should go to praise Thine eyes, and on thy forehead gaze; Two hundred to adore each breast, But thirty thousand to the rest; An age at least to every part, And the last age should show your heart. For, lady, you deserve this state, Nor would I love at lower rate. But at my back I always hear Time's winged chariot hurrying near; And yonder all before us lie Deserts of vast eternity. Thy beauty shall no more be found, Nor, in thy marble vault, shall sound My echoing song; then worms shall try That long preserv'd virginity, And your quaint honour turn to dust, And into ashes all my lust. The grave's a fine and private place, But none I think do there embrace. Now therefore, while the youthful hue Sits on thy skin like morning dew, And while thy willing soul transpires At every pore with instant fires, Now let us sport us while we may; And now, like am'rous birds of prey, Rather at once our time devour, Than languish in his slow-chapp'd power. Let us roll all our strength, and all Our sweetness, up into one ball; And tear our pleasures with rough strife Thorough the iron gates of life. Thus, though we cannot make our sun Stand still, yet we will make him run. moreResolved Question: How to care for baby birds?

One of the first things that I hear when I ask an American about China is, well... "Communist". Some Americans even tend to go off on nationalistic spiels regarding Chinese Communism. My first question is: "Really?" Do you really despise Communism that much? I honestly don't think so. Rather, I believe that you've grown up with anti-communist ideals ingrained into you. If you view China's current political situation from a neutral standpoint, it isn't as horrific as you make it out to be. I feel that those who take a radical stance against Communism are either 1. Cold War kids, or 2. Bandwagoners. It makes me sick, how anti-Chinese sentiments even manage to worm their way into politics, and mass media. Although the Media cannot be regulated in such a manner, even some political figures have expressed slightly nationalistic views. Al Gore once twittered about the Chinese's plan to build an electric car within a couple of years. He then made a comment, stating "If the Chinese can do it, why can't we? We can't let them win! Let's go, America!" That statement could be taken both ways. Moving right along, The baby boomer and post-baby boomer generation should know how Japanese brands like Toyota formerly built knockoffs of American cars. Have we not learned from that? Instead, we now have Yankees trolling over the internet, lashing out at any news of a Chinese car. My question here is: What's your viewpoint on China? moreResolved Question: How often should I de-worm my horse?

GOD: St. Francis, you know all about gardens and nature. What in the world is going on down there in the USA? What happened to the dandelions, violets, thistle and stuff I started eons ago? I had a perfect, no-maintenance garden plan. Those plants grow in any type of soil, withstand drought and multiply with abandon. The nectar from the long lasting blossoms attracts butterflies, honeybees and flocks of songbirds. I expected to see a vast garden of colors by now. But all I see are these green rectangles. ST. FRANCIS: It's the tribes that settled there, Lord. The Suburbanites. They started calling your flowers weeds and went to great lengths to kill them and replace them with grass. GOD: Grass? But it's so boring. It's not colorful. It doesn't attract butterflies, birds and bees, only grubs and sod worms. It's temperamental with temperatures. Do these Suburbanites really want all that grass growing there? ST. FRANCIS: Apparently so, Lord. They go to great pains to grow it and keep it green. They begin each spring by fertilizing grass and poisoning any other plant that crops up in the lawn. GOD: The spring rains and warm weather probably make grass grow really fast. That must make the Suburbanites happy. ST. FRANCIS: Apparently not, Lord. As soon as it grows a little, they cut it, sometimes twice a week. GOD: They cut it? Do they then bale it like hay? ST. FRANCIS: Not exactly Lord. Most of them rake it up and put it in bags. GOD: They bag it? Why? Is it a cash crop? Do they sell it? ST. FRANCIS: No, sir -- just the opposite. They pay to throw it away. GOD: Now, let me get this straight. They fertilize grass so it will grow. And when it does grow, they cut it off and pay to throw it away? ST. FRANCIS: Yes, sir. GOD: These Suburbanites must be relieved in the summer when we cut back on the rain and turn up the heat. That surely slows the growth and saves them a lot of work. ST. FRANCIS: You aren't going to believe this, Lord. When the grass stops growing so fast, they drag out hoses and pay more money to water it so they can continue to mow it and pay to get rid of it. GOD: What nonsense. At least they kept some of the trees. That was a sheer stoke of genius, if I do say so myself. The trees grow leaves in the spring to provide beauty and shade in the summer. In the autumn they fall to the ground and form a natural blanket to keep moisture in the soil and protect the trees and bushes. Plus, as they rot, the leaves form compost to enhance the soil. It's a natural circle of life. ST. FRANCIS: You'd better sit down, Lord. The Suburbanites have drawn a new circle. As soon as the leaves fall, they rake them into great piles and pay to have them hauled away. GOD: No. What do they do to protect the shrub and tree roots in the winter and to keep the soil moist and loose? ST. FRANCIS: After throwing away the leaves, they go out and buy something which they call mulch. They haul it home and spread it around in place of the leaves. GOD: And where do they get this mulch? ST. FRANCIS: They cut down trees and grind them up to make the mulch. GOD: Enough! I don't want to think about this anymore. St. Catherine, you're in charge of the arts. What movie have you scheduled for us tonight? ST. CATHERINE: Dumb and Dumber, Lord. It's a real stupid movie about ... I have a Texas spinney lizard; it's pretty small still, about 4inches long including the tail (though its tail is a bit shorter than normal) and it's supposed to get to be about 7-11 inches long. I've had it for about 7 months now, it was about 2-3 inches when I caught it. It was growing pretty fast at first but it seems to have stopped growing recently, despite not being full size. I was thinking that its slow growth may be related to the fact that it only eats crickets. I've tried giving it other food like meal worms but it won't eat anything that isn't alive. The only live prey that the pet store I go to sells are crickets and maybe pinkies (even then, the pinkies might only come frozen; not sure). Would pinkies be okay to give it? Ok so i have seeds that germinate in 2-7 days and i had enough seeds and would be very happy if even 10percent of them turn into something and since it can grow practically anywhere under many environments I figured that since I'm not looking to growing that many plants that I wouldnt spend the extra time with germination so I just got soil from the corn field but it was in huge clumps so I needed to add water to help break up the clumps and then I noticed afterwards that there may be too much excess water cause I seen some worms on the top after sleeping and I already planted the seeds yesturday so I cant do much anymore but put the seeds in before germinating cause I figured there was enough water so that the can just use that water and then they will be able to immediatly start growing and by the time they germinate the water will be back to suitable levels but I have no draining cause I just used a clear drawer as a pot so to grow seedlings and then based on which grow I can move them to pots but for now I have no drainage so I was wondering if water will still leave in time and if my overall method will work?(im not growing for amazing quality plants but just as a place to start with learning gardening. Any suggestions for what to do at any stage is appreciated but keep in mind im not buying nutrients and air filters or a hydroponics system but just gunna keep it by my window for few weeks and then if plants grow good I'll transplant them to their own pots to grow in. moreVoting Question: I'm worried about my son's diet...?
My almost 3 year old is very fussy. He pretty much wont eat anythng colourful, only beige or chocolate. Pretty much the only meat he will eat is the pattie in a McDonalds cheeseburger and even then it's rare, he'll just eat the bun and the cheese. He'll eat cookies, choc chip musli bars, weet-bix, bread, cheese, crackers, rice (plain), noodles (plain), pasta (plain). I try to get a bit of meat sauce on his pasta, he's usually ok with that as long as its not too much. I can't hide a teeny tiny bit of veg with stuff, he's like a cat with a worming tablet... eats everything and at the end spits it out. He freaks out at anything else you try to give him. And he only drinks water. Nothing else. He used to eat anything and everything as a baby. Is it just a phase? Will he grow out of it? He seems pretty healthy, he's not fat, not skinny and he barely ever gets sick. I try and sneak a crushed up multi vitamin in his cereal. Has anyone else had the same thing? Is there enough organic nutrients in this soil? Im growing a small little garden this year. its up in the forest, so i dug up all the soil and got rid of it, because there were huge boulders everywhere and the soil was just generally not fertile and to acidy. So what i did was dig up a lot of the dark top soil i could find around the forest, and crushed it up and it looks to have a lot of decaying material in it. I also added 3 bags of scott's premium organic compost with manure added, and i plan to add a couple more bags. there is also a big bag of peat moss in there too to hold moisture, and some ashes because peatmoss is kinda acidy. I also added grass clippings and worked it into the soil, and a couple handfuls of bone meal.. i plan on getting some worm castings as well, since they are like gold to plants... im planting my plants into the soil this weekend and they need to be high in nitrogen until auguest when they start flowering, then i will start with a organic liquid fertilizer rich in phosphorus... but until then, is my soil rich enough so i dont have to add any fertilizers? and i will ONLY use organic solutions because these are plants i will be "ingesting".. moreVoting Question: Is there enough organic nutrients in this soil?

Alvin, a submersible vehicle used by oceanographers to study the ocean floor, has also proved invaluable in studying populations of deep-sea mollusks and segmented tube worms. The invertebrates in question live where hot seawater circulates through cracks in the ocean floor called deep-sea vents. Suppose that you are an invertebrate biologist studying these animals. Your studies show that clams that live near the vents may grow as much as 3.8 cm per year—far more rapidly than other deep-water clams. Q. Suppose your data show that the temperature is the same in samples taken close to the vents and some distance away from the vents. However, the size of the clams is smaller the farther they are from the vents. What would this indicate? (3 points) moreVoting Question: Bokashi bin or Worm Farm?
Hi all. I was just wondering the opinion of somebody who has used both composting systems. I'm currently using a bokashi bin, and composting all my food scraps through that. Then using the juice over my garden, and digging the scraps into an area that I plan to plant into later. My garden is growing very well, but could it be better? But I was wondering which would be better to use, a worm farm, or a bokashi bin? I was wondering if there was anybody out there who had used both. How much do you pay per horse to get their hooves trimmed (no shoes). Do you get them done every 6-8 weeks or less/more often? My boyfriend has a horse who is not really wild, but isn't willing to lend her legs. Will i have to call a vet to sedate her? I really have no clue how long it's been since she's had them done, but she is just a field horse, she's not used for anything, she just grazes and eats sweet feed. We can de-worm her (she has a halter, we can get close to her and everything), but she just will not let us see her hooves. They look pretty long, especially in the front. It's like they grew really fast all of a sudden...is there something that causes this? I don't think we have the time or money to have horses so im trying to convince him to get rid of them so they can go to someone who has the money to invest in the hoof care, but they belong to his parents so i don't really see how either of us can convince them to get rid of them. Please don't fuss or be negative, im trying to help as best as i can. A ferrier was supposed to have came yesterday and he never showed so another one is supposed to come out tomorrow. There are 6 horses total, one is only about a year old and he actually does belong to my boyfriend and i've about got him convinced to sell him/give him away to someone who has the time and money. My boyfriend just bought a new home and he really isn't around enough to pay attention to the horse. If he doesn't get rid of him soon he will be so wild that no one will be able to get near him... Sorry i went on and on, but basically i just want someone to tell me how much they usually pay per horse to get their hooves trimmed. Thanks for polite answers, and im doing my best to get them to a better place. That's a little relief. Some guy my mom work's with says it's $60 a horse w/o shoes and i was freaking out. I have one horse that belongs to me and he is one of two that will let you have his feet so my boyfriend has a rasp and nippers and the knife and he worked on him, but he is not trained to do it, so i wasn't sure if it was done correctly or not. I looked at some youtube vids. of professionals doing it and it seems as though my horse looks okay, but that one that i was referring to in my question--hers are horribly long. I just want to make sure hers get taken care of for sure. moreResolved Question: Dog training social problems?
I know the title dosen't make much sense... I have a dog, Scooby, he's a Blue Heeler and German Shepard mix, and I want him to go through training at the local PetsMart. They have a really good trainer that works there, she's really nice. But she can also be very dominant when training dogs. But more of my dog's past... my Dad and I found them when coming home on the highway, in the middle of NOWHERE, in a Louisiana swamp. There were six puppies, two pairs of each were different. Two looked like blue heeler, two looked like german shepards, and the other two looked like rat terrier mixes. (Female dogs can get pregnant at the same time with different dogs.) And we saved them, nursed them back to health, they had worms, got rid of them, took them all to the vet, got shots, de-wormed, neutered and spayed, and we managed to give two away to good homes. I kept one of them myself, and he was the blue heeler/german shepard. Anyways, we live wayyy out in the country so they've got a lot of room to play in, even though it's fenced. A couple of acres of fenced land. And the only socializing any of them get it with each other or when going to the vet. They're ten months old now, so they're pretty much full grown. And they don't socialize well at all. Especially Scooby. When people come over he will NOT go near them, won't sniff them, etc. And if I kinda nudge him over to them he'll force himself back as much as I allow and start growling. He's NEVER bitten anyone, never tried to. I think the growling is just a warning. But I take him for walks down the road and he loves it, until the vet that lives down the road jogs past him. Or the kids playing ball talk sweet to him. He also has a bad habit of peeing on himself when he gets scared, so I haven't tried to get him to be more social, therefore I won't have to get peed on when he gets nervous. I'm sorry for telling you his whole life story -_- I must be bored, lol. But I was just wondering if I all of a sudden enroll him in training at PetsMart, will it make his behavior worse? Should I slowly introduce him to people? How? Will he stay this way the rest of his life because it's all he knows now? Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks : ) moreVoting Question: My Kitten is always hungry?
