How do you stay original when you work off of other pieces of work? I want a very Wizard of Oz or Alice in Wonderland feel to my book, but how do you suggest i come up with the creative creatures and characters without stealing from these other story lines. I've just been to see the Golden Compass and a film was shown in the trailers. It was about a man and his daughter who when they read a book, what they read comes to life. The trailer starts with the girl reaading wizard of oz and toto comes to her feet. And then the guy reads a book about a tavern and an ale drinker thingie comes through the window. And then a book is read, which the trailer says 'should never have been read'. And it has a funny line from the guy who says that he loves this world because of Duct Tape. Please help me? My Gf asked me to read this book called Wicked a spin-off i guess of the Wizard of OZ i just cant get into it, ive been trying for about 3 weeks now. I do love to read myself which is why ive made every attempt to make her happy and give it 1 shot after another. So i was hoping someone could explain to me about the story line, basically the cliff notes on the beginning, the middle, and the end and what exactly i was supposed to take out of this story. Ive looked up wikipedia and that offered no help. So if you have any thoughts or ideas and have read the book any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Im i guy who loves his GF and try harder than alot of other guys i kno to make the woman he loves feel special and important, and this i kno is her favorite book and would love to b able to reciprcate the conversation about this book with her. Someone recently told me that L. Frank Baum's books were "childish". They said the plot line was thing, and they weren't great classic literature, but merely a story about the magical adventures of a girl. You can look at any book like this if you want to. I'm not the type of person who wants to look at a book in a shallow manner, however. So what are your ideas on these classic novels? Feel free to comment about the movie/play or any other related material instead of or along with the books.
